When I was in high school Zep's I-V, Floyd's "Dark Side", "Who's Next" and Allman's "Fillmore East" were required listening. We all had'em we all wore'em out. Think slightly earlier than the movie "Dazed and Confused" that's us! Yeah, I'm OLD! Elton John, Bowie, T-Rex that was considered "girl's music" back then. We all listened to it secretly though.

Hey, I'm old too, but Led Zep was dinosaur music in 1977, you could not possibly be seen to listen to these dying monsters.

And in 1967, you wouldn't have been caught listening to those dying striped monsters The Beach Boys!

Exactly. Let us all remain 8 and have no idea of what cool is. Cause that's what cool is.

I was heading out the door earlier when Daniele posted about Zeppelin so I didn't have the time to reply, but I think you guys pretty much covered what I was thinking about, how intriguing and odd it is to me, that she grew up in an environment that viewed Zeppelin with disdain. And yet, she lived and loved Alice Cooper. Oh how the critical tables have turned. Poor Alice gets no love these days, but that's because he's alive and American as opposed to dead and British.

And the punk idea that Zeppelin were dinosaurs? How about the Simonon quote about "wanting to vomit" when he saw the album covers? Funny bc the Clash became the same sad dinosaurs a few years down the road. "Combat Rock"s cover nauseates more so than "Presence" ever could.

That and his music is shit.

Alice was beloved by the punk community. He was seen as similar to Iggy, which he was.

I dig Combat Rock. I don't think it's dinosaur at all, and neither is Presence.

Don't even go there. Alice is much, much, much loved here.

There, that is. Not here.

It had a sort of place for me in my early or mid teens, but not much different a place than that of KISS for me. And while I like to listen to him speak--interesting as hell, that man--I just don't like his music much at all.

No, here is right here.

Love It To Death and Killer are stunning albums, classics. And the other ones with the original band are great as well.

Luther, you are very very wrong. That is all. 80s Alice is sad and boring but so is 80s McCartney. "Killer" and "Billion Dollar Babies" are great great albums (I like the others too) that I rank right with the best of T. Rex and Bowie.

If you ever find me praising 80s McCartney, I deserve all the vitriol you can muster. As for Cooper, well, we'll continue to disagree.

But as for Zeppelin, I think we'll agree. (Although I'm going to be honest, I didn't read this entire thread.) Brilliant, and all the periods of critical acclaim followed by criticial derision don't mean a goddamn thing because the music has remained well-recorded, well-played and quite popular. It's great stuff.
