July 30th and August 1st, 1966. The Beatles play Tokyo's Budokan, and find an audience bullied into near-silence. It is immediately apparent how far their musicianship had fallen in the deafening quiet of the arena. The second show is a bit better. Both shows were filmes for Japanese TV. Here is the audio from that film.

Circa April-May 1966. John home demos his new composition She Said She Said in several tries, initially as He Said He Said.

I didn't download this cause I think I have it already -- the track with multiple tries. He goes through a few variations which are comparatively uninspired. Then he gets near it a little bit - a new recording on the tape then begins in a whole different key, most of the song in place. His performance there is so lovely, one of those messages from and to humanity you get on record sometimes.

August 29th, 1966. The Beatles play their last real concert, at Candlestick Park. At Paul McCartney's suggestion, press man, Tony Barrow records the show on his tape recorder. A historic moment, and a great, loud power pop show.

John's 1966 home recordings. First there's some very nice home doodling on his new mellotron, then a long, painful journey through the genesis of Strawberry Fields Forever. Some skeletal versions recorded in Santa Isabel, Spain, while filming on location for How I Won The War, then back home at Kenwood, many different tries, then some primitive tape-on-tape overdubbing with the mellotron. Very enlightening material.

The Beatles' home recordings from 1967 and early 1968. First is John's short demo for Good Morning Good Morning, circa January-February 1967. Then circa May-June, there is John's first attempt at what would become Across The Universe, a sketch of an ultimately abandoned song entitled She's Walkin' Past My Door, then a sketch for You Know My Name. Circa August-September, some home-recorded incidental pieces for the Magical Mystery Tour film. Circa November-December, Paul home demos his composition for Cilla Black, Step Inside Love. From November, a home-recorded ditty for Kenny Everett's radio show, by Paul and Kenny, entitled All Together On The Wireless Machine. From 1967-early 1968, there are several home-recorded pieces by John for a stage production, Scene Three Act One. The first half are John alone, the second include Ringo as well. Circa January-February 1968, more home demos sessions by John for his new compositions Cry Baby Cry, Across The Universe and Hey Bulldog. Circa February-March 1968, during The Beatles' stay in Rishikesh studying meditation with the Maharishi, a documentary film crew captures the group and friends (minus Ringo, who had already left) walking and strumming an eclectic, fun medley of various songs. From March 15, 1968, right before Paul's departure back to India, there is a medley of a Paul song called Spiritual Regeneration, which morphs into a happy birthday ditty for their fellow meditatee Mike Love. John and George returned to the UK in April, and scheduled a proper series of home demo sessions at George's house for late May. Before this happened, John tried out his new song Julia at home, which would strangely end up the last song recorded for their forthcoming LP.

In late May 1968, The Beatles gathered at George's house to demo the vast wealth of material they had composed in India earlier in the year, in preparation for the proper recording sessions soon to begin at Abbey Road. 23 songs were recorded.
The first time they appeared in one place and in proper order was on disc 1 of the classic Vigotone CD From Kinfauns To Chaos. Here is that disc.
A few of these tracks (some in edited, bastardised form) appeared on Anthology 3.

For completion's sake, here's the White Album demos as presented on Anthology 3. The section was incorrectly attributed entirely to the Esher sessions, but only three (edited) tracks were presented from them. Most of the section consisted of newly found demos recorded after the Esher sessions by John at his Kenwood home, still before the start of the proper EMI sessions.
