As much as I've enjoyed Stern in the past, I no longer can stomach that fellow New Yorker's weird mix of cockiness and ignorance. I made it though the first example on the clip though, and I see nothing wrong with Zep claiming they wrote "Babe, I'm Gonna Leave You" (who knows that the song they're claiming was ripped off wasn't ripped from something else which was ripped from something else still?) . Everything is derived from somewhere, particularly anything with blues or folk origins, and you might as well cite "Traditional" as the writer of every song if you're going to stand on technicalities.

How about Chicago ripping off 25 Or 6 To 4 from the one part of the song Zep DID write?

My vinyl copy of Led Zepp II has Killing Floor credited as The Lemon Song and written by Page, Plant, Bonham and Jones.

What are the credits on the CD versions for that song?

This is my summation;

Good Times, Bad Times - Page/Plant, no plagiarism that I'm aware of

Babe I'm Gonna Leave You - Trad. arranged by Page (when they didn't know who wrote it)... the credit has since been changed to Anne Bredon.

You Shook Me - always been credited to Willie Dixon to my knowledge.

Dazed and Confused - yup, verses pretty much the same - should have credited.

Your Time is Gonna Come - Page/Plant, yup - great tune too.

Black Mountain Side - complete rip from Jansch.

Communication Breakdown - Page/Plant, sure is.

I Can't Quit You Babe - always been credited to Otis Rush. Damn fine cover too.

How Many More Times - I really don't know with this one. I know Robert quotes Howlin' Wolf and Muddy Waters in the lyrics, but I don't know if the music's original...

Lemon Song - Page, Plant, Jones, Bonham, Burnett

It has part of Traveling Riverside Blues by Robert Johnson in it as well.

Of course, Whole Lotta Love is Willie Dixon's You Need Love and How Many More Times is Howlin' Wolf's How Many More Years.

There's a whole bunch of The Hunter in How Many More too.

Was Bring It On Home originally credited to them?

The 1993 CD is the same. No Burnett. Ian, where is that credit?

I have the CD in hand, "Jimmy Page and Robert Plant."

I'll have to go digging for the record.

Every reference to the song on the Net I could find has that as the credit.

Lyrically yeah, similarities - but music is very different. And yeah, there's some Muddy - but I love Roberts little blues quotes, seems nothing but respectful to me.

Yeah, they took credit for Bring it on Home - cheap bastards.

Quote:
The song borrows significantly from Howlin' Wolf's "Killing Floor", which was a song Led Zeppelin often incorporated into their live setlist during their first concert tour of the United States. For the second and third American tours the song evolved into "The Lemon Song", with Plant often improvising lyrics onstage. However, despite Howlin' Wolf's influence on the arrangement, the album sleeve of Led Zeppelin II initially credited only the four members of Led Zeppelin. The band was later sued for copyright infringement, and Howlin' Wolf's name was added to the credits.

When was the lawsuit? Mid Nineties??

Randy California himself was never pissed about the Taurus/Stairway thing. He thought it was inspired by it, that's all.

A real major rip from Spirit is the opening riff of Cheap Trick's The Flame, from Spirit's incredible Nature's Way.
